SINGLE THREAD
Dancers/Choreographers: Olivia Carmelo and Gabi Rybar
Music: NN/Peaks - KingDingRay
An exploration of fate and connection, this work draws on the myth of an invisible red thread that binds destined souls across time and distance. Through tension, release, and entwined pathways, the dancers embody intimacy, resistance, and inevitability—revealing a bond that stretches, strains, and softens, yet never breaks.
Gabi Rybar is a Calgary-based choreographer and performer originally from Fernie, BC. She holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Calgary. Her work explores the intersection of narrative and atmosphere through fluid movement, intentional spatial design, and collaborative creation.
Olivia Carmelo (she/her) is an emerging dance artist based in Mohkinstis (Calgary) and a recent graduate of the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Dance. She began training at a young age in ballet, jazz, and hip-hop, with a primary focus on contemporary movement. Driven by curiosity and artistic inquiry, Olivia continues to refine her practice under the guidance of mentors, developing a distinct voice rooted in fluidity and raw authenticity. As a choreographer, she creates work that challenges convention and explores the human experience through themes of identity, resilience, and connection. Her choreographic works include The Aftermath of Something Lethal (Dance @ Noon 2023), The Bear (Alchemy Festival 2024), and Losing Cents (Dance @ Night 2025). She has also collaborated with Barbara England, Tara Wilson, and Mya Kresnyack on Between Shadow & Light for the In Motion IV project.
